چکیده

The predominance of the non-sporulating anaerobic bacteria in the flora of the human intestinal tract has been repeatedly shown by the investigations of Eggerth and Gagnon (1933), Weiss and Rettger (1937), Misra (1938), and Lewis and Rettger (1940). The pathogenicity of related species has been recorded by Henthorne, Thompson and Beaver (1936), Dack, Dragstedt and Heinz (1937), Dack (1940), Brown ,Williams and Herrell (1941) and others. The difficulties of isolation and subculturing have so limited the study of these anaerobes that their importance is scarcely recognized and certainly not understood. Egg-meat and brain media have been used for the maintenance of stock cultures, but they are not well adapted for the isolation and biochemical studies of these bacteria because of difficulty of manipulation, lack of clarity and extreme complexity. Lewis, Bedell and Rettger (1940) developed a tryptone-glucose-cysteine medium which was useful for isolation and certain

Non-Sporulating Anaerobic Bacteria of the Intestinal Tract : II. Growth-Facilitating Factors.

The statements of Castellani and Chalmers (1919) and Bergey (1934) that the Bacteroides show good growth on ordinary laboratory media have been quite misleading, for difficulty of cultivation has been among the most trying problems encountered in working with the non-sporulating anaerobic bacteria. Harris (1901-1905) and Beaver, Henthorne and Macy (1934) have especially emphasized this point, a...

Butyribacterium, a New Genus of Gram-positive, Non-sporulating Anaerobic Bacteria of Intestinal Origin.

The classification of the gram-positive, non-sporulating, anaerobic bacteria of intestinal origin has been a matter of much difficulty. Originally these bacteria were placed by Castellani and Chalmers (1919) in the genus Bacteroides along with a number of gram-negative, anaerobic organisms. Since this was obviously unsatisfactory, Eggerth (1935), Prevot (1938), and Weiss and Rettger (1938) deci...

Isolation and characterization of Lactobacillus species from intestinal contents of beluga (Huso huso) and Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus)

Lactic acid bacteria are characterized as gram-positive, usually non-motile, non-sporulating bacteria that produce lactic acid as a major or sole product of their fermentative metabolism. In this study, the presence of lactobacilli were investigated in the intestines of beluga ( Huso huso) and Persian sturgeon ( Acipenser persicus ), inhabiting Caspian sea. The obtained data showed that various...

Non-Sporulating Anaerobic Bacteria of the Intestinal Tract : I. Occurrence and Taxonomic Relationships.

This investigation was undertaken mainly to extend the observations of Eggerth and Gagnon (1933) and Weiss and Rettger (1937) on the occurrence of non-spore-forming, obligately anaerobic rod-shaped bacteria in the human intestine. Paths soon led to a study of relationships of the various organisms to each other, and of the gram-negative types to certain other closely related bacteria. A volumin...

The effect lactic acid supplementation in diet of rainbow trout on growth parameters, activity of digestive enzymes and intestinal bacterial flora

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of adding lactic acid to the diet of rainbow trout on growth indices, activity of digestive enzymes and microbial flora of the fish gastrointestinal tract. For this purpose, 4 diets containing 0, 5, 10 and 20 g of lactic acid per kg of diet were made and each diet was offered to fish in three replications for 8 weeks. The results showed that t...
